How to prepare your dog for salon treatments
Getting a puppy is a great joy. If you plan to visit a grooming salon, it's important to get your pet used to treatments in advance. Here are a few simple tips to help make the visit comfortable.
1. Introduce brushing from an early age. Run a soft brush through the coat daily, gradually increasing the time. This gets the dog used to being touched.
2. Introduce handling. Simulate grooming by touching the paws, ears and tail. Reward calm behaviour with treats.
3. Visit the salon for short introductory trips. Come to meet the groomer and let the dog sniff around the space. This will reduce stress on the day of the actual procedure.
4. Keep your pet clean. Bathe your pet before the visit (if you don't plan on bathing at the salon) and brush out any mats.
If you have an adult dog, don't worry — a professional groomer will always find the right approach. The key is to choose a trusted salon and trust the specialist.
